As the host, British celebrity, Russell Brand, continually bashed the Jonas Brothers' choice to wear purity rings, symbolizing their value to abstain until marriage, the feelings went from fun to uncomfortable, as Brand's vulgar language and comments filled the stage. After multiple assaults on the Jonas Brothers, and the wearers of such purity rings, Jordan Sparks added a brief comment in defense of the boys and abstinence, while announcing an award. Shortly after, Russell Brand made a PR induced apology to the Jonas Brothers and their fan base, while the boys' reaction was quickly shown on camera in the audience. Unfortunately, the Jonas Brothers, although having Burnin' Up nominated for both best pop video and video of the year, did not take home any moon men that night, despite their wonderful performance of Love Bug earlier in the evening.
